On the body of this magnificent vase, a four- horse quadriga is shown galloping in a lively, realistic manner. This is almost certainly a reference to the chariot races held at the funeral games of prominent people in the ancient world, for which this vessel was possibly a prize. Atop the ovoid body stands a splendid winged goddess, very likely Victory or Fortuna. Painted and modelled in superb Hellenistic style, this vase vividly evokes the classical past at its most colorful, a place full of worldly pleasures which even death could not erase completely. - (PF.0010)
