Description
Resting on his haunches with large beady eyes staring beyond the present, this fascinating animal whistle reveals the imaginative talents of the Ancient Mayan potters. We delight in its novel shape and charming demeanor. Perhaps the whistle was used in ritual as a call to the gods, alerting them to the needs of man. Or maybe it was a source of endless amusement for small Mayan children. Whatever its ancient function, we realize today that its communicative power is everlasting, the melodic notes that emanate from its soul touching all who experience them. - (PF.2554)
