Description |
A leaping feline spirit God is depicted in bold,
expressionistic style on either side of this superb
pot. The rich colors are those of the earth: ochre,
sienna, buff. Nazca deities were drawn mostly
from the plant and animal worlds, and were
associated with the fertility of nature and the cult
of the trophy head. Though the complex
iconography is mysterious, the vivid impression
the vessel creates is immediate and lasting.
