Description
As ivory is one of the hardest materials to carve, this sculpture becomes a wonder in itself due to its beautiful carving and intense realism which the artist has tried to render. The carving has been done with great precision, carefully detailing the charming female form and her activity of carrying a basket. She is simply dressed, allowing the decoration of her beauty to gain prominence. Her face is detailed with great precision and care, while her hair, designed as if in the shape of a pyramid, towers above her showing the skill involved in symmetry of design. In its entirety, the small sculpture is a masterpiece of skill and artistry, which is unmatched, greatly influencing the way we see African art today. - (PF.3955)
