Description
This spear was used for monetary exchanges or bartering, predominately involving matrimonial transactions. Iron was considered a precious material and something so provocative as a spear made from this metal would have been considered a very impressive possession. The sheer weight and height would have attracted a great deal of attention, especially when carried. It would have been attached to a handle, further adding height and monumentality. A spear of this nature represents something beyond its obvious form; more than a symbol of wealth and power, it is a virtual embodiment of pride carried high for all to see. - (PF.4675)
