There is a potent, mysterious aura that radiates
from this sculpture. The woman stands with her
hands placed at her sides. Probably the most
interesting feature is the cap she crescent-
shaped wears. A large object in the form of a
stylized bird’s head projects from the front of
her forehead. This unusual element echoes the
bridge of her nose when seen from the front.
Three rings with dangling vertical rods appear on
the sides and back of her head. Coupled with her
intense, hypnotic eyes and mouth, these features
all contribute to this figure’s spiritual powers.
Metal nails have been driven into the wood,
decorating the crest of her cap and representing
her nipples and navel. Decorative scarifications,
considered marks of beauty, are visible around
her navel, on her shoulders, and her forearms.
The shape of her rounded kneecaps seems to
imitate the circular head of the nails. Perhaps
this sculpture represents a bush spirit. Surely,
this figure represent a powerful spirit, for we can
still feel the mysterious magic contained within
the wood today.
