Description
Elegant high-spouted brass ewer of characteristic form with cylindrical vertically-ribbed body supported on a spreading waisted foot; the flattened shoulder joined to the narrow cylindrical neck by a sunburst motif; simple square-section arched handle. The ewer has been richly decorated with engraved rosettes, arabesques in shaped cartouches and calligraphic bands on the surface of the body, whereas the ones on the shoulder have been inlaid in copper. Two sejant lions in repoussé on either side of the neck, with further repoussé work on the faceted spout. Khurasan, late 12th century. - (LO.641)
