Description
This is a stone sculpture of the head of a Bodhisattva. Peacefully gazing downwards, the figure has a serene facial expression, radiating an approachable and amiable aura. Although the top part of the crown is missing, it is easy to deduce its original look by examining the remaining part.

Although its facial features bear some resemblance to Northern Dynasties figures, its overall form suggests a Tang origin. This head of a Bodhisattva reflects the trend in which Buddhist figures are depicted increasingly plump from Sui to Tang dynasty. - (HK.2854)
