Description |
With the head of Melkarth, patron god of Tyre, on
the obverse, and an eagle on the reverse, this coin
reflects the proud heritage of an ancient city. The
Tyrian shekel, much prized in antiquity, is the most
likely candidate for the thirty pieces of silver paid to
Judas. A tangible excitement clings to this
magnificent coin, as if it has been witness to history
in the making.
