Description |
This genuine Ancient Byzantine gold coin has
been mounted in a modern 18 karat gold ring.
Justinian learned the art of imperial power under
his uncle emperor Justin I. When his turn came to
rule solely, he did so with remarkable skill and
energy. During his long reign he solidified the
empire, prevented Persian expansion, embarked
on ambitious building projects in
Constantinople, (including the construction of
the great church St. Sophia), and the codification
of Roman law. This very lovely gold coin shows
the emperor facing frontally wearing diadem and
holding a cross in right hand. On the reverse is a
standing angel holding a long cross and a globe
with cross. Due to the relative peace of the realm
and general prosperity Justinian' s reign has been
regarded as a Golden Age-- making the
glittering gold of this coin even more special.
