This beautifully patinated figure, dressed
apparently in a soldier's tunic, may be an Iberian
regional variation of Mars, the god of war. Such
figures may have been offered to honor those
fallen on the field of battle, or as an appeal to
the god for victory. When we touch it we are
swept back into another world--primitive,
mysterious--yet one whose emotions were not
that different from our own.
