Bottle stopper, or furnace waster? Free-blown ovoid-shaped solid glass with an added bronze head on top showing a face. Probably Egypt or Syria, most likely pre-Islamic, 3rd – 6th century. Ht. 21cm; Width in the centre 7cm. Remarks: this object, for which no parallel has been found, could have been a stopper for an amphora. Further research and contact with underwater archaeologists may throw some light on the function, provenance and date of this interesting object. Prof. Geza Fehervari Prof. Geoffrey king - (JB.1496)
