This beige marble vessel probably served as a cosmetics container. Vessels of a similar size and shape dating from the Middle Kingdom were known to be eye make-up containers. We can picture an ancient princess dabbing her hands inside this vessel before applying the cosmetics to her eyes. The vessel is of a somewhat flattened spherical shape with a gently rounded bottom. The shoulders taper inwards towards the neck, which flares outwards into a wide flat rim. Although the exterior has been smoothly polished, the interior features ten bore holes arranged around the bottom as well as other drill markings along the sides. - (X.0069)
