Description |
During the iron age, there was a
thriving trade
between ancient Cyprus and Palestine.
This
boldly painted jug, with its pattern of
concentric
red and brown circles, perhaps contained
olive
oil and was exchanged for some local
product of
Judea. Its exact history is, of course,
unknown;
but there is no mistaking the vital
human energy
that lingers about it still. The vessel
links us in
an unbroken thread with vanished lives
and
distant times.
