Description |
With vivid, sometimes startling detail, Moche
portrait vases depict the Ancient Peruvian
aristrocracy. This splendid vase shows a man
with a determined look on his face. His brows
are knit in concentration, his stare is direct, his
mouth radiates authority. We have no trouble
believing that he was a leader among men. The
dotted cap he wears suggest that he might have
been a warrior. The artist has perfectly captured
not only the features of the sitter, but also his
powerful personality.
