Description
A funnel is a practical utensil--any household today might contain one that looks very much like this. It takes us a moment to realize that when this glass funnel was first used, Rome was at the center of the world. Whose hands might have held it, we wonder, and to what purpose? Would they have thought about the future any more than we would while going about everyday tasks? If we pour history and imagination into it in equal parts, the result is magical. - (G.0889)
