Description |
The woman is seated on a stool that is composed
of two vertical columns with complex designs.
Her body posture is erect and dignified,
displaying a harmonic balance between the
elements of the physique and the ornate
scarification. The baby holds tightly onto its
mother’s back, its legs reaching to the sides of
her abdomen. She twists her hands behind to
support the child under the hips and buttocks.
Her crested coiffure is similar to those of the
kpan mask representing the senior female in the
“Dance of Rejoicing.” Her carefully modeled
facial features express repose and contentment,
a perfect model of the maternal image for young
mothers to emulate.
