Over the centuries, the body material, shapes
and decorations of unglazed wares, have
hardly changed and may present features that
were characteristic over large areas. This
earthenware jug is comparatively small. It has
a globular and regular symmetrical body
indicating that it was made on a wheel. It also
has an extremely wide opening. The base is
flat. The decoration, which is deeply moulded,
only covers the globular body, dividing it into
two rims. The top rim consists of symmetrical
abstract motifs while the lower one consists of
Quranic inscriptions. The body of the jug looks
like it could have been carved by using a
separate mould. This jug was most likely a
water jug, or a drinking vessel.
