Description

This elegantly-shaped vessel once contained perfume when the Roman Empire was at its height. So much has changed in the world since then, it is amazing that this delicate amphora has survived the ages intact. As we hold it in our hands today, we cannot help imagine who might have held it then. What beautiful woman might have adorned herself with its contents? What emotions passed through her as she tipped its sweet fragrance onto her fingers? Only the imagination can fill in the blanks, but it invites us to connect in an intimate way with that vanished time and place. - (GF.0315)
