The making of decorative glass objects in ancient times was an elitist enterprise, and most of the finer products were too expensive for the majority of people. The wealthy and noble classes of the Imperial period eagerly collected glassware created by the 'new' method of blowing glass from a bubble. Cups, goblets and other household items were often decorated with ribbed designs similar to the pattern on this lovely bracelet. The bands of alternating amber, yellow, white and black are wonderfully enhanced on the gorgeous dark aqua background. This rich blue-green is painted on a lighter forest green of the glass itself. The size of the bracelet suggests it was worn by a young person, perhaps a teenager of ancient times, who must have delighted in its charms as much as we do today. - (GF.0339)
