Description |
Though the body is indistinct, the prominent horns on this small votive sculpture identify it as a bull. Since earliest antiquity, the sacrifice of a bull had been a gift to please the gods, an animal both majestic and strong, worthy of divine royalty. What wish--humble or grand--caused it to be given long ago? Surely if this bull charmed the gods as it pleases us today, then it must have brought its giver good luck.
