With wide flaring lip, long neck and rounded body, this ancient flask makes a timeless appeal to the senses. We share our delight with the citizens of the Roman Empire who first held it centuries ago. What might it have contained then? Perfumes from Egypt? Medicines from Arabia? Balms or oils brought from Africa? These things remain mysterious, lost in time. Yet, somehow, we feel a connection with the past and those who held it then. Our gestures echo theirs, and our imagination takes us back across the bridge of time to a vanished world. - (GF.0279)
